Today, 5/2/26, at approximately 1316 hours a Benewah County Deputy initiated a traffic stop on someone with a known arrest warrant. The vehicle pulled over in front of the fire hall. The suspect refused to exit the vehicle. As he was being removed from the vehicle the suspect reached in his waist and grabbed a pistol. He then accelerated the vehicle and crashed into a stop sign at 9th and Jefferson and continued to crash into a yard at 11th and Washington. The suspect got out of his car with the pistol and barricaded him self in a shop. Somehow he got out from behind the shop and was cornered between a house at 12th and Jefferson. At approximately 1328 hours Deputies heard a gun shot. Deputies moved in and found the Male with a self inflicted gun shot wound. There were no Law Enforcement injuries. There is no continued threat to the community.
